Sorry I have been a little absent for the past few days ... I've had a bit of work, and I've been trying to stay reasonably on-top of things before leaving the continent for a few weeks (I leave in less than two weeks!).
A few days ago, I saw a remarkable movie and it prompted thoughts of many things: cycles, detail, destruction, nature, humans, the planet. One of the images that spoke to me the most was the image of monks creating a beautiful mandala out of sand. They took painstaking measures to create this beautiful image with precision and symmetry. It is not unlike what artists or other creative-types have to do.
It reminded me that practice can be a meditation.
The presentation of this movie was superbly done. I don't see many "big budget Hollywood blow-things-up-with-very-predictable-plot movies: I don't really like them. The cinematography, done on film, and in twenty-five countries, showed brilliant footage of movement, location, weather, and variety. We must all strive for such vivid colors, and such joy in presentation itself.
It reminded me a little of a special place this past summer. To many of us, this is simply a cappuccino. Espresso, foam, maybe some cocoa, maybe not. For multitudes of us, we start consuming them in disposable paper cups, standing up (or running somewhere else). For the person who made this, he took the time to make it a work of art. A mandala for my inner-Italian.
May that be an inspiration to us all. Happiness perhaps comes in the details of daily life.
