I apologize for being absent, again ... the New Year has started beautifully. This week was a great journey of worlds meeting. My boyfriend (remember Zheng, the interpreter from the China tour?) came to visit, and together we journeyed to Niagara Falls. It was his first time in this part of the country, and I hadn't been there in ages, and at that, it had been summer during my last visit in 1997.
The week was a great opportunity to enjoy the last bit of rest before the semester starts. Some of my close friends in Rochester got to meet Zheng (and he them), I worked on my lecture recital, and am slowly realizing that I will be bidding Rochester and Eastman farewell in the coming months.
Seasons change a place, and they also mark its permanence. This tree has been in the path of the rapids for a long time. Sooner or later, it will be replaced by a different tree. And the rapids will be unchanged. That is how Eastman and I relate to each other. I am the current tree, in its place, but the current of a larger place will always be bigger than I.
